At Luna Tree, fair trade means working directly with Karen Hill Tribe silversmiths in Northern Thailand, building long-term relationships based on respect, fair pricing and skilled craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have partnered with artisan makers whose traditional silversmithing and time served expertise brings each piece to life, while ensuring the people behind every design are paid fairly and supported through sustainable work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Ethics and Fair Trade are extremely important to us and form the very foundation on which our business is built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve worked with our artisan partners in Northern Thailand since 2007, building trusted relationships over many years. Their traditional handmade techniques give each piece its own character while helping preserve valuable silversmithing skills within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BAFTS is the network of independent shops and suppliers dedicated to promoting Fair Trade retail in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n

We work on a basis of total transparency from our producers, as designer, importer, wholesaler and retailer to our customers. We create a personal link from one end of the chain to the other. Working directly with our silversmith community ensures the shortest possible supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our core vision is one of sustainability, transparency and working as ethically as we can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We continue to work with the same community since establishing in 2007. Fair Trade is about building long term relationships, assisting with development of products and making space for the creative freedom of our artisan partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We pay upfront for all our orders, firstly with the value of raw materials so production can get underway. Ensuring that workers are paid as parts of the order are completed. Any final balance of the order is paid on completion and all shipping costs also covered in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working with our producer partners directly on the design of our ranges we actively encourage and promote their individual creativity. Empowering the silversmiths to harnesses their creativity and skills to bring their talent to the global market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luna Tree endeavour to help reset the balance between developing communities and the developed world. Helping the whole community to benefit from the partnership we have together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working long term with our partners helps to create economic stability for them beyond their subsistence farming. While the village community, including people not involved with silversmithing benefit as a whole, as a percentage of the silver orders revenue is used on community expenses. This is decided upon democratically by the council of village elders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gender Equality<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

All the families involved in silver production within the village have a mix of both male and female workers. Both the men and women receive the same pay for the same work undertaken. Gender equality within Karen Hill Tribe communities sees all aspects of work undertaken by males and females equally including farming. Production always fits around other duties such as harvest time, festivities and childcare which further empowers the women producers. As a women led business the empowerment of women is of the utmost importance to Luna Tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visiting and Ordering<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We visit our producer village roughly once a year to develop new products, observe production and to catch up on all aspects of village life. This enables us to be positive regarding working conditions and practices of our producers. The work of silversmithing can only be undertaken by artisans with the skills gained after adequate time served training and therefore we can be absolutely certain that no child labour is ever used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fairtrade is recognised and trusted as the label which works to make trade fairer for the people who grow our food. The raw ingrediants, how they are grown, farmed and mined. Karen Hill Tribe silver is <\/strong>a high-purity silver (usually 96 – 99%) which is traditionally handcrafted by Karen Hill Tribe silversmith artisans in Northern Thailand. It is valued for its bright colour, soft lustre and handcrafted character. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
